Abstract

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) has become the gold standard treatment for insomnia disorder. This meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluates the efficacy of CBT-I in improving sleep parameters and reducing insomnia symptoms. Through a comprehensive review of the literature, the meta-analysis synthesizes effect sizes from RCTs assessing the effectiveness of CBT-I compared to control conditions (e.g., waitlist, sleep hygiene education) in targeting sleep onset latency, total sleep time, wake after sleep onset, sleep efficiency, and insomnia severity. Additionally, it examines potential moderators of treatment outcomes, such as intervention components (e.g., stimulus control, sleep restriction), delivery format (individual vs. group), therapist involvement, and participant characteristics (e.g., age, comorbidities), to better understand the factors influencing the effectiveness of CBT-I for insomnia management.
