Abstract

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) has been established as a leading treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). This meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluates the efficacy of DBT in reducing symptoms and improving functioning in individuals with BPD. Through an extensive review of the literature, the meta-analysis aggregates effect sizes from RCTs assessing the effectiveness of DBT compared to control conditions (e.g., treatment as usual, waiting list) in targeting core symptoms of BPD, such as emotion dysregulation, impulsivity, interpersonal difficulties, and self-harming behaviors. Moreover, it examines potential moderators of treatment outcomes, including treatment duration, format (individual vs. group), therapist qualifications, and participant characteristics (e.g., age, gender), to elucidate factors influencing the effectiveness of DBT for BPD.
