Abstract

Sleep plays a crucial role in mental health, and poor sleep quality has been consistently linked to various mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, and stress. This meta-analysis of longitudinal studies examines the association between sleep quality and mental health outcomes over time. Drawing from a comprehensive review of the literature, the meta-analysis synthesizes effect sizes from longitudinal studies that assess the relationship between subjective and objective measures of sleep quality (e.g., sleep duration, sleep disturbances, insomnia symptoms) and indicators of mental health (e.g., depression, anxiety, psychological distress). Additionally, it explores potential moderators of this association, such as age, gender, and comorbidities, to better understand the complex interplay between sleep quality and mental health.
