Abstract

The built environment plays a crucial role in shaping individuals' physical activity levels and overall health outcomes. This scoping review examines the influence of built environment characteristics, such as urban design, transportation infrastructure, and land-use patterns, on physical activity behaviors and chronic disease prevention. It synthesizes evidence from multidisciplinary studies exploring the relationship between built environment features and various chronic conditions, including obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, the review identifies gaps in the literature and proposes future research directions to inform urban planning and public health strategies aimed at promoting active living.
