Abstract

Air pollution poses a significant threat to public health, particularly affecting respiratory function. This comprehensive review examines the various pollutants present in the atmosphere, their sources, and their effects on respiratory health. The review also discusses the mechanisms by which air pollutants induce respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung cancer. Furthermore, it explores the vulnerable populations most at risk and suggests strategies for mitigating the adverse effects of air pollution on respiratory health.
