Abstract

Pesticides play a crucial role in modern agriculture by protecting crops from pests and increasing agricultural productivity. However, their widespread use raises concerns about potential adverse effects on public health and the environment. This review provides an overview of current trends in pesticide use, exposure pathways, and associated health risks. It discusses common types of pesticides, such as organophosphates, carbamates, and pyrethroids, and their mechanisms of toxicity. The review also examines the health effects of acute and chronic pesticide exposure, including neurotoxicity, carcinogenicity, and reproductive disorders. Additionally, it explores strategies for reducing pesticide exposure and promoting safer alternatives, such as integrated pest management and organic farming practices.
