Abstract

Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) represents a holistic approach to farming that aims to increase agricultural productivity, enhance resilience to climate change, and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. This paper provides an overview of CSA principles, practices, and technologies, emphasizing the importance of integrating climate adaptation, mitigation, and food security objectives into agricultural planning and management. It discusses the role of diversified cropping systems, agroforestry, soil and water conservation, and improved crop varieties in building climate resilience and promoting sustainable livelihoods for farmers. The paper also explores the potential of CSA to contribute to global climate change mitigation efforts by reducing emissions from deforestation, land degradation, and agricultural practices. By fostering innovation, knowledge sharing, and multi-stakeholder collaboration, CSA approaches can help transform agriculture into a more climate-resilient and sustainable sector.
