Abstract

Aquaculture and fisheries play a vital role in meeting the global demand for seafood while addressing food security, poverty alleviation, and economic development. This paper examines the sustainability challenges facing aquaculture and fisheries, including overfishing, habitat degradation, and pollution. It discusses strategies for promoting sustainable aquaculture practices, such as integrated multitrophic aquaculture (IMTA), improved feed formulations, and ecosystem-based management approaches. The paper also highlights the importance of certification schemes, traceability systems, and international cooperation in ensuring the long-term viability of aquaculture and fisheries sectors.
